2nd Amendment

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

I firmly believe that the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is the cornerstone of all our liberties, and America's last defense against all forms of tyranny ... foreign and domestic.  The Second Amendment is not about hunting, it's not about target shooting, recreation or even self-defense.  The Second Amendment was placed in the Bill of Rights to guarantee that this nation's citizens would always have the means to overthrow their government should such drastic action become necessary.

Yes, overthrow!  Our Founding Fathers knew that it could become necessary for free men to overthrow their government -- they did it --and they wanted to make sure that their posterity would have the means to do so as well.

It is an interesting paradox:  as long as the people are well-armed and capable of overthrowing their government, they will probably never need to avail themselves of that drastic measure.  But if they are ever disarmed and helpless before their government, rest assured that they will come to wish that they had the means.

"When the people fear their government there is tyranny.  When the government fears it's people there is liberty."  Thomas Jefferson
