The House of Representatives has passed a
military appropriations bill ending the policy of "Don't Ask, Don't
Tell," which allowed homosexuals to serve in the military provided
they did not openly reveal their sexual orientation. The
Senate Armed Services Committee also voted to repeal the ban and
according to reports, this almost assures that a bill will reach the
White House this year. Of course President Obama will quickly sign it
into law. His Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Admiral Mike
Mullen, has testified that he supports the demise of "Don't Ask,
Don't Tell." According to the Main-Sream-Media, everyone is on board with
this and it's just about time we got it done. Right?
I notice one thing I haven't read yet. I
have not read that a thorough polling of the military ranks has
revealed that a majority of America's enlisted men and women
are eager for this change. I don't think we'll be seeing that
any time soon, either. Of course I could be wrong, but I'm
pretty sure that most enlisted men and women and a good many
officers would oppose allowing homosexuals to openly serve in the
military. Why?
No matter how "open minded" they are about
allowing others to enjoy their own lifestyle choices, few
heterosexuals are comfortable living, sleeping and bathing in
close quarters with homosexuals. That goes beyond
"allowing them their choice" and gets right up to enjoying that
choice with them. The military lifestyle is a sparse one of necessity,
and whether its a barracks or a foxhole, that necessity often
involves living in very close quarters. Not much has been
mentioned about the opinions of those on the front lines, but I did see a military female
testifying that she would view being forced to bunk with a lesbian
in exactly the same light as being forced to bunk with a male
soldier. Bigot! Homophobe!
Why have Chairman Mullen and so many others of the military's top brass
jumped onto this bandwagon? Perhaps they truly believe it's
"right" but I seriously doubt it. I also doubt that they would
argue that it will improve morale and combat readiness. More
likely, they are careerists and
are more concerned with maintaining and furthering their careers than
they are in preserving the effectiveness of the U.S. armed forces, the military that keeps America safe and free. Why not ask the
men and women who will live with the results of this policy change
up close and personal? Why not ask them if this will make
America's military more effective, bolster readiness and improve
retention? I'll give him this: even though Admiral Mullen
testified in support of allowing homosexuals to serve openly, he
admitted that he did not know how it would affect morale and combat
readiness. But he still approved the White House deal to get
Congress to forge ahead with a vote without waiting for the results
of a Pentagon study that will be release in December. The
other Joint Chiefs broke with their Chairman and refused to endorse
it, but they didn't even get to see the deal until after it was
announced!
Washington is not interested in
asking our military men and women what they think about this
policy. Washington thinks they can just tell those in
uniform how it's going to be and order them to like it. The
Left has been targeting the military for social experimentation for
years, and just as pushing women into the military hurt readiness
and created new problems with rape, pregnancy and morale, the result
of allowing homosexuals to openly serve will be more of the same
only worse ... well, I wouldn't expect pregnancy rates to rise.
Everyone will be so surprised when recruiting and retention drop.
It can only get harder to find Americans who will put their lives on
the line for this country. Why would they sacrifice so much?
Why would they risk their lives? Even heroes have limits.
George Orwell once said, "we sleep safe in our beds because rough
men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do
us harm." This country continues to elect radicals who "loathe
the military" and think that it is their plaything, their showcase
for social engineering. Obama doesn't want to ask those rough
men what they think about opening the ranks to open, practicing
homosexuals. He thinks he can just tell them and they will
continue to serve.
No. Actually, I
think he knows what will really happen. I think he and the
radical leftist democrats inhabiting the halls of Congress know full
well how this will turn out. They have been voting for it with
every slicing of the military budget. The armed forces will be
gutted, our warrior tradition destroyed, and America left
defenseless before her enemies.
Elections have consequences.
America, for the love of God, stop
electing people who hate this country!
