Blind Dog in Meathouse

A Blind Dog in the Meat House
May 2010

It's been a long time since I've written anything here.  There are a couple of reasons for that.  One of them is that I've been so busy.  Oh that success as a writer would find me so that I could be freed from the mundane necessity of working for a living!

The other reason is that there have been so many things to write about!  If you've been reading here before you know something about me:  brevity (and therefore, wit I suppose) is not one of my strongest characteristics.  I can leave my wife a quick note about us needing butter and it will be three pages long ... typewritten.

So with all the things going on in the news right now, you can understand that my muse has been confused.  I would no more start pondering one issue with an eye toward formulating some commentary, when some other matter would captivate my imagination and draw me away.  So here at my computer tonight I decided to just sit down and write a few observations on whatever hit me.  Like the aforementioned blind dog in a meat house, I will tear from here to there, chomping, salivating and trying to dodge the swinging hams.

Lies I'm sick of
(Excuse me.  Lies of which I am sick.)
This is how the left debates:  they set the rules of the debate, and the most important rule is that the debate is already over and they won.  Their every assertion is stated as already proven, settled and unassailable fact.  You can argue with them about interpretation, but if you deny the truth of their fundamental premise you are some kind of Neanderthal.

"We all know that the earth is warming..."
We don't know any such thing.  But the scientific evidence continues to show that the earth is warming!  2009 was the warmest year on record!  Yeah, right.  The scandal of the purloined email (I predict that some day that anonymous IT professional, disgruntled employee or hacker will be honored as a hero of mankind) has shown us one thing beyond question: we dare not give credence to the claims of those clowns who wrote those emails.  Not only are they duplicitous, scurrilous and deceitful, they are also too stupid to be accorded any credibility as the scientific geniuses they purport to be.  And you people who STILL believe them are worse!  You deserve to live in a stone-age world where these clowns are your Masters, and I would let you except you want to take me and my children there too.  No deal.

"We must have comprehensive immigration reform in order to address the problem effectively."
If you're talking about the problem of people crossing our borders illegally and thumbing their noses at our nation's laws, "comprehensive immigration reform" should mean putting them on a bus to the border and helping them back across with a couple of swift kicks in the ass.  But when liberals say "comprehensive immigration reform" they mean changing our laws so that the lawbreakers can become legal residents and eventually citizens.  "We must create a path to citizenship!" they repeat over and over.  We already have a path to citizenship; it's called standing in line until it's your turn.  I was at the movie theater just last week, and the line was so long I decided to institute comprehensive movie theater line reform.  I walked up to the front and slipped in right in front of the ticket window.  Can you believe it!  Everyone got mad at me and the cashier threatened to call the cops.  I told her they were profiling, and were racists and bigots and homophobes -- well, not homophobes -- but it didn't do any good.  Imagine the gall of them expecting me to follow the rules.  They were almost as bad as those Arizona people!  Passing laws to get the police to actually enforce the U.S. immigration laws.  What kind of sick country are we living in?!!

"We all know that our health care system is broken..."
Our health care system is expensive, not broken.  We have the best health care in the world, but somehow we have gotten the idea that we shouldn't have to pay "best health care in the world" prices.  We think that we should be able to buy insurance that will pay for a million dollars worth of health care a year, and it shouldn't cost any more than a hundred dollars a month.  Are we insane?  Yes it costs a lot, but we spend our money on what we want to.  Where did we get the idea it should (or could) be cheap to maintain our health?  Our health care system is so expensive for another reason:  those who are paying for their own are already paying for those who can't or won't buy insurance.  You go to the hospital for a procedure, say a colonoscopy, and you (and your insurance company) are charged nine thousand dollars.  Did it really cost that?  No, but you have to add in the cost of all those in the emergency room that were treated because the government said the hospital must do so.  And you have to add in the cost of all those on Medicare who were treated and charged less than it actually cost because the government said the hospital must do so.  Now Medicare will pay even less, and doctors will begin to refuse to take Medicare patients.  What's next?  Why, a law forcing doctors to treat them!

And Speaking of "Health Care Reform"
President Obama mocked the skeptics.  "Can you imagine if some of these reporters were working on a farm and you planted some seeds and they came out the next day and they looked--Nothing's happened!  There's no crop!  We're gonna starve!  Oh, no!  It's a disaster!" he told a town meeting in Maine.  "It's been a week, folks.  So before we find out if people like health-care reform, we should wait to see what happens when we actually put it into place.  Just a thought."  Yeah, right.  Let's wait to see what sprouts.  But what if it's kudzu?  Once Obamacare is implemented, it will be too late.  It's like a woman waking up with a man attacking her, and he says, "oh, why don't you wait and see?  You might like it!"  We already know we're not going to like it.  You can't get un-raped.

And Speaking of Being Attacked
President Obama is renouncing the use of nuclear weapons, even to defend this nation against an attack using chemical or biological weapons, which are also weapons of mass destruction.  It's been our policy that chemical and biological weapons are also "weapons of mass destruction" and that we may use nuclear to respond to such an attack, but President Obama has now removed that deterrent.  Since the US does not stockpile chemical or biological weapons, we can only respond to these now using conventional weapons.  Thank you, Barak Obama, President of the World, for giving this comfort to our many enemies today.

America!  For the love of God, stop electing people who hate this country!

'Better quit for now.
Believe it or not, I started this "Blind Dog in a Meat House" commentary in March.  I guess I'd better stop writing (every few weeks) and pull the trigger on it.  If there are any misspellings or grammatical idiocies, please forgive me, but email and let me know anyway.  I hate those things!
